ORHA Supports Rural Letter

PBM Opinion
The Ohio Rural Health Association (ORHA) supports fair and transparent pharmacy benefit management practices that prioritize patient access, rural pharmacy sustainability, and healthcare equity.

PBMs play a significant role in determining prescription drug access and pricing, yet their practices often lack transparency and can disproportionately impact rural communities. ORHA is deeply concerned about the financial strain PBM reimbursement models place on independent and rural pharmacies – many any of which are the only source of medication access for miles.

We advocate for greater transparency, accountability, and reform in PBM operations to ensure that rural patients are not left behind, and that local pharmacies are able to continue serving their communities. Policymakers must take action to promote fair reimbursement, prevent anti-competitive practices, and support a pharmacy infrastructure that works for all Ohioans.
